Scholars and poets thus sought for a more refined and peaceful life away from the court’s corruption and blatant materialism. They began to  look towards designing furniture for their scholar’s studio, furniture that will uplift the spirit and lighten the heart. They design along the lines of pure Chinese philosophy as espoused by the  past sages.
